Background

The aftercare of prisoners is very important to us, and we believe that the Christian values people acquired inside a prison should be given the opportunity to continue and grow outside.

FREE on the INSIDE has been active for many years, concentrating mainly on those people who are serving custodial sentences. Our volunteer base has worked in Young Offender Institutions and Category B, C & D adult prisons, including those for women. We have been involved in prisoner follow-up programmes, mentoring and work with rehabilitation organisations. We have also worked with the friends and families of serving prisoners and the education of juvenile offenders.

We are a group of Christians with very different backgrounds but sharing a common purpose of making Jesus Christ real to ordinary people. Our team consists of professional men and women who are firmly rooted in everyday life.

Progression into Freedom4 is simply continuing and expanding an important part of Christian Ministry. It would be easy to say that Freedom4 was entirely a FREE on the INSIDE idea, but that would be wrong! It all started with an amazing man called Eduardo Bonnin.

FREE on the INSIDE is committed to work with all people but our special concern is for men and women who struggle to live within the boundaries of society, especially those who pass through our prisons. We recognise the huge need for both reform and reconciliation, and believe our ministry, which involves many volunteers from every section of life, offers a unique contribution. With emphasis of our work firmly on spiritual understanding and growth, we believe people will grow in their desire to integrate into society, to find spiritual homes and to discover acceptability with an enhanced quality of life.

What We Do:
• We offer a three day weekend course based on the Cursillo model, called Freedom4 . This prepares the Pilgrims for their 4th day- the rest of their lives.
• We work with churches and organisations who wish to develop their understanding of our specialist ministry and its outcomes, providing speakers and information on request.
• We liaise with churches and parishes who wish to explore outreach, using our resources to enhance the spread of the Gospel, particularly to those people not normally “at home” in a conventional church or fellowship.
• We liaise and work with other Christian charities especially those who focus on people who have passed through our prison
